In July 2026, the official opening of the International Center for Civilizational Studies “Manas and Mahabharata” and the presentation of the first-ever Hindi translation of “Manas” marked a significant milestone in cultural cooperation between India and which country?
Kyrgyzstan
“Manas” is the traditional epic poem of the Kyrgyz people. It narrates the deeds of the hero Manas and his descendants, is one of the longest epic poems in the world, and is recognised by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in its Kyrgyz form.
A centre named “Manas and Mahabharata” pairs the national epic of Kyrgyzstan with the great Indian epic, and a Hindi translation of “Manas” brings the Kyrgyz epic to Indian readers. So the July 2026 opening and translation marked a milestone in cultural cooperation between India and Kyrgyzstan.
Georgia’s best-known epic is “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin”, Armenia’s national epic is “Daredevils of Sassoun”, and Kazakhstan has its own separate epic tradition; “Manas” belongs to none of them.
Hence, Kyrgyzstan.
