Question

If 2 is added to each odd digit and 1 is subtracted from each even digit in the number 82135746, then what will be the difference between the first digit from the right end and the first digit from the left end in the new number thus formed?

RRB NTPC 2025 Under Graduate CBT 1 Question Paper PDF (20-Jun-2026) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

2

Apply the rule to each digit of 82135746: add 2 to every odd digit and subtract 1 from every even digit.

8 (even) \(\to\) 8 \(-\) 1 \(=\) 7; 2 (even) \(\to\) 1; 1 (odd) \(\to\) 1 \(+\) 2 \(=\) 3; 3 (odd) \(\to\) 5; 5 (odd) \(\to\) 7; 7 (odd) \(\to\) 9; 4 (even) \(\to\) 3; 6 (even) \(\to\) 5.

The new number formed is 71357935.

First digit from the left end \(=\) 7; first digit from the right end \(=\) 5.

Required difference \(=\) \(7 - 5 = 2\).

Hence, the difference between the first digit from the right end and the first digit from the left end is 2.
