Question

If 15, 25, x are in proportion. Find the value of x.

The correct answer is

125/3

If 15, 25, x are in (continued) proportion, then 15 : 25 = 25 : x.

So 15 × x = 25 × 25 = 625.

x = \(\frac{625}{15} = \frac{125}{3}\).

Check: 15 : 25 = 3 : 5 and 25 : 125/3 = 75 : 125 = 3 : 5, so the two ratios are equal.

Hence, 125/3.
