A dietary survey aims to collect information about an individual's or group's food consumption patterns. Several methods exist, each with its strengths and weaknesses.
HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) is a sophisticated laboratory technique used for separating, identifying, and quantifying components in a mixture. While it can be used to analyze the nutrient content of specific foods, it is not a method for directly surveying what people eat.
Based on the definitions, the methods suitable for conducting a dietary survey are 24 hr recall (II), FFQ (III), and Diet history (IV). HPLC (I) is an analytical technique, not a survey method.
| List – I (Types of reliability) | List – II (Procedure) |
| (a) Stability | (i) Administer one test and correlate the items to each other. |
| (b) Equivalence | (ii) Administer different tests to the same individuals over a period of time. |
| (c) Equivalence and Stability | (iii) Administer the same test to the same individuals over a period of time. |
| (d) Internal consistency | (iv) Administer different tests to the same individuals at about the same time. |
