The punch tip will wear out quickly

A centre punch is struck with a hammer to make a small dent that starts a drill, so its tip must be robust enough to take repeated impact.

The recommended point angle, around 90 degrees, gives a stout, well-supported tip that resists the shock of hammering.

Grinding the tip to a much sharper 45 degrees leaves a slender, poorly supported point with far less metal behind the cutting edge.

Under repeated hammer blows this thin tip cannot bear the load, so it breaks down and the punch tip wears out quickly.

The change does not make the marks deeper and clearer in a useful way; a weak tip soon deforms and gives ragged, inconsistent marks.

Removing metal to sharpen it does not make the punch stronger, and grinding the tip does not meaningfully change the tool's overall weight, so those options are wrong.
