Question

Direction: These questions are based on the following information.

There is a family of 7 members: Puja, Payal, Paras, Preet, Palak, Pia and Parth. In that family, there are 3 generations having 2 married couples among them.

Puja is daughter in law of Pia. Pia and Parth is married couple who has only 1 son. Palak is sister of Payal. Payal is daughter of Paras. Parth is father of Paras.

How many male members are there in a family?

The correct answer is

3

Pia and Parth are a married couple with only one son. Parth is the father of Paras, so Paras is that son (male) and Parth is male, Pia female.

Puja is the daughter-in-law of Pia, so Puja is the wife of Paras (female). This gives the two married couples: Parth–Pia and Paras–Puja.

Payal is the daughter of Paras and Palak is the sister of Payal, so both are female and form the third generation.

The seventh member, Preet, can only be in the third generation as a child of Paras and Puja (Pia has just one son). Taking Preet as male, as the official key does, the males are Parth, Paras and Preet.

Females: Pia, Puja, Payal and Palak.

Hence, there are 3 male members in the family.
