Question

All of the following are consequences of overuse of nitrogen fertilisers, EXCEPT ______.

This question was previously asked in
RRB Group D 2025 Question Paper (18-Aug-2026) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

Increased oxygen in water bodies

Excess nitrogen fertiliser washes into rivers and lakes and damages the soil and water quality.

The added nutrients cause algal blooms; when the algae die, decomposers use up the dissolved oxygen, so fish die (eutrophication).

Oxygen in water bodies therefore falls rather than rises, so an increase in oxygen is not a consequence of fertiliser overuse.

Hence, the answer is increased oxygen in water bodies.
