According to the Gregorian calendar, how many leap years are there in 400 years?

This question was previously asked in
HTET 2025 Level 1 PRT Question Paper (5-Jul-2026)
The correct answer is

97

In the Gregorian calendar, out of every 400 years there are 100 years divisible by 4, but century years not divisible by 400 (like 1900) are excluded from being leap years -- removing 3 such years, leaving exactly 97 leap years in 400 years.
