Question

A person takes 5 hours to cover a distance of 300 km by car. By how much (in km/hr) should he increase his speed so that he covers the same distance in 4 hours?

This question was previously asked in
SSC GD 2018 Question Paper Hindi (11-Mar-2019) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

15

15 is correct.

Speed equals distance divided by time. Find the present speed and the speed needed for the new time; the required increase is their difference.

Present speed \(=\dfrac{300}{5}=60\) km/hr.

Speed needed to cover 300 km in 4 hours \(=\dfrac{300}{4}=75\) km/hr.

Increase \(=75-60=15\) km/hr.

Hence, he must increase his speed by 15 km/hr.
