Question

In a row of students, if A is 12th from the left and B is 15th from the right, and there are 7 students between them, find the maximum number of students in the row.

SSC CHSL 2025 Tier 1 Question Paper (21-Nov-2025) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

34

Given: A is 12th from the left, B is 15th from the right, and there are 7 students between A and B.

The number of students in the row is maximum when A and B do not overlap and none of the counted students are shared — that is, when the 7 students sit strictly between them.

For the maximum case, add the students up to A from the left, the students between them, and the students up to B from the right.

This gives Total \(= 12 + 7 + 15\).

Adding: \(12 + 7 = 19\).

Then \(19 + 15 = 34\).

So the maximum possible number of students is 34.

Therefore the row can have at most 34 students. 34
