A dealer buys an article at a discount of 25% on its list price and marks it at 35% above the list price. If he allows a discount of 20% on the new marked price, find his profit percent.
44%
Let the list price of the article be 100.
The dealer buys it at a 25% discount, so the cost price is 100 - 25 = 75.
He marks it 35% above the list price, so the marked price is 100 + 35 = 135.
A 20% discount on the marked price gives the selling price as 135 x (1 - 20/100) = 135 x 0.8 = 108.
Profit = selling price - cost price = 108 - 75 = 33, and profit percent = (33/75) x 100 = 44%.
Hence, the dealer's profit percent is 44%.
