The correct answer is
Rs. 280 profit

Oil Mixture: Calculate Total Cost

First, find the total cost of the oil in both cans.

  • Cost from Can 1: The can has 40 litres at Rs. 50/litre. Total cost = $40 \times 50 = 2000$ Rs.
  • Cost from Can 2: The can has 60 litres at Rs. 60/litre. Total cost = $60 \times 60 = 3600$ Rs.
  • Total mixture cost = Cost from Can 1 + Cost from Can 2 Total cost = $2000 + 3600 = 5600$ Rs.
  • Total volume of the mixture = $40 + 60 = 100$ litres.

Determine Cost Price per Litre

Calculate the cost price for each litre of the mixed oil.

  • Cost price per litre = $\frac{\text{Total Cost}}{\text{Total Volume}}$ Cost price per litre = $\frac{5600}{100} = 56$ Rs/litre.

Calculate Profit or Loss on Sale

Determine the profit or loss specifically on the 20 litres sold.

  • Cost Price (CP) of 20 litres sold = $20 \times 56 = 1120$ Rs.
  • Selling Price (SP) of 20 litres sold = $20 \times 70 = 1400$ Rs.
  • Profit = SP - CP Profit = $1400 - 1120 = 280$ Rs.
  • Since the result is positive, it is a profit.

The seller makes a profit of Rs. 280 on this sale.
