Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) will hold RRB ALP CBT 1 under CEN 01/2026 on 4 November 2026, the second day of the exam. Shift 1 is the first sitting, and reports mention 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM; the e-call letter carries the confirmed timing. CBT 1 has 75 questions for 75 marks in 60 minutes with 1/3 negative marking, covering Mathematics, Mental Ability and General Science. It is part of RRB ALP recruitment for 11,127 Assistant Loco Pilot posts. Shift 1 difficulty level, good attempts and questions asked are To Be Updated.
Shift 1 of 4 November is judged on its own paper, separate from the 3 November shifts. Difficulty level, good attempts and subject-wise question counts will be filled from candidate reports and a review of the paper after the sitting ends. Question papers and answer keys will be added after the exam; see RRB ALP 2026 CBT 1 question paper for updates.
| Section | Questions | Difficulty Level | Good Attempts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | Not officially specified | To Be Updated | To Be Updated |
| Mental Ability | Not officially specified | To Be Updated | To Be Updated |
| General Science | Not officially specified | To Be Updated | To Be Updated |
| Overall | 75 | To Be Updated | To Be Updated |
Note: Good attempts refer to the number of questions candidates may attempt with reasonable accuracy. The overall range will be a broad benchmark based on shift reports and will not be calculated by adding every endpoint of the subject-wise ranges. Actual performance depends on accuracy and the 4 November question paper.

Section-wise review will be added once the morning sitting of 4 November is over. RRB has not published a question split across the three subjects, so counts will be confirmed from the paper. Each correct answer gives 1 mark and each wrong answer costs 1/3 mark, so marks = correct answers - (wrong answers / 3). The table shows illustrative scores only; it is not a good attempts estimate for Shift 1. Practice on RRB ALP mock tests shows how accuracy changes the final score.
| Correct Answers | Wrong Answers | Questions Attempted | Marks (out of 75) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 36 | 18 | 54 | 30 |
| 45 | 9 | 54 | 42 |
| 55 | 6 | 61 | 53 |
| 60 | 3 | 63 | 59 |
The first row shows that 18 wrong answers can pull a candidate with 36 correct answers down to exactly 30 marks, the UR and EWS qualifying score.
These points come from CEN 01/2026. The e-call letter carries the full instructions for each candidate.
This is a historical benchmark, not a Shift 1 finding. It reflects the previous cycle (CEN 01/2025) CBT 1 held on 13, 16, 17 and 18 February 2026, with all shifts combined. That paper included General Awareness, which is not part of CBT 1 in 2026, so subject ratings are indicative only.
| Subject | Difficulty Level (Feb 2026 CBT 1, All Shifts) |
|---|---|
| Mathematics | Moderate |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | Easy to Moderate |
| General Science | Moderate |
| General Awareness and Current Affairs (not in 2026 CBT 1) | Easy to Moderate / Moderate |
| Overall | Easy to Moderate |

CBT 1 only screens candidates, and its marks are not counted in the final merit list. Marks of all shifts are normalised, so a Shift 1 score is compared on a common scale with later shifts. RRBs shortlist candidates for CBT 2 at 15 times the notified vacancies of each RRB, based on CBT 1 merit.
| Category | Minimum Pass Percentage | Equivalent Marks (out of 75) |
|---|---|---|
| UR and EWS | 40% | 30 |
| OBC (NCL) | 30% | 22.5 |
| SC | 30% | 22.5 |
| ST | 25% | 18.75 |
These are qualifying percentages, not shortlisting cutoffs. The expected cutoff is not yet determined; see RRB ALP cutoff for updates. CBT 2 has 175 questions in 150 minutes, and its schedule will be announced separately by RRBs.

Ques: What are the difficulty level and good attempts for RRB ALP 4 November Shift 1?
Ans: Both are To Be Updated. They will be added after candidate feedback and a review of the Shift 1 paper, and good attempts will be an estimate, not an official score.
Ques: How many marks will 45 correct and 9 wrong answers give in RRB ALP CBT 1?
Ans: Nine wrong answers cost 9 x 1/3 = 3 marks, so the score is 45 - 3 = 42 marks out of 75. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.
Ques: Is General Awareness asked in RRB ALP CBT 1 on 4 November?
Ans: No. General Awareness has been removed from CBT 1 under CEN 01/2026. The paper has Mathematics, Mental Ability and General Science, with RRB giving no official question split across them.
Ques: What is the minimum qualifying score for OBC (NCL) and SC candidates in RRB ALP CBT 1?
Ans: OBC (NCL) and SC candidates need a minimum of 30%, which is 22.5 marks out of 75. ST candidates need 25% (18.75 marks) and UR and EWS candidates need 40% (30 marks). These are qualifying marks, not the shortlisting cutoff.
