KSET Educational Qualification 2026

KSET Eligibility 2026 for Candidates Awaiting Results
- Candidates who are:
- Pursuing their first or second year of Master’s degree, OR
- Have appeared for the final year/semester exam but are still awaiting results, OR
- Whose qualifying exams have been delayed, may also apply for KSET.
- Such candidates will be provisionally admitted.
- The eligibility certificate will be issued only if they pass their Master’s degree with required marks (55% for General, 50% for Reserved categories, PwD & Transgender) within two years of KSET result.
- Failure to provide proof within this period will result in disqualification.
KSET 2026 Subject-Specific Rules
- Candidates must appear for KSET only in the subject of their post-graduation.
- If the subject studied at post-graduation level is not available in KSET subject list, candidates must apply for UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET, which is conducted twice a year.
KSET 2026 Relaxation for Ph.D. Holders
- Candidates who have completed their Master’s degree on or before 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of result declaration) are eligible for a 5% relaxation in marks.
- Requirement reduced from 55% → 50%.
- This relaxation is available only to Ph.D. holders.

Along with qualifications, KSET imposes specific conditions to ensure fair application of rules.
KSET 2026 Reservation Policy
- Reservation benefits apply only to Karnataka candidates.
- Candidates must mention their reservation status while filling the online application form.
- Category certificates must be issued by competent authorities on or before the last date of submission.
- The RD number of the caste/category certificate must be entered in the application.
- Certificates submitted later will not be accepted.
Eligibility for Other State Candidates
- Candidates from outside Karnataka are not eligible for reservation.
- They can apply only under the General category, provided they scored 55% or more in Master’s degree.
Provisional Candidature
- Admission to the exam is purely provisional.
- It does not mean KEA has accepted eligibility unless conditions are met.
- Eligibility becomes final only after verification of documents.
Restriction for Previous Qualifiers
- Candidates who have already qualified in previous KSET exams in a particular subject are not eligible to apply again in the same subject.
- If found, their candidature will be cancelled and earlier eligibility withdrawn through de-notification.
Equivalence of Degrees and Diplomas
- Candidates holding a two-year postgraduate diploma/certificate (Indian or foreign) must ensure equivalence with a Master’s degree.
- Verification should be obtained from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
Single Subject Rule
- Candidates who hold a Master’s degree in more than one subject can apply for KSET in only one subject at a time.
- Once selected, the subject cannot be changed under any circumstances.
Exemptions in KSET Eligibility 2026
KSET 2026 is the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in universities, colleges, and institutions of higher education (Government, Aided, and Private) in Karnataka. However, certain candidates are exempted from appearing for KSET under the following conditions:
NET/SET/SLET Rule
- As per UGC regulations, NET/SET/SLET remains the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment of Assistant Professors in Indian Universities/Colleges/Institutions.
- Exemptions from NET/SET/SLET will be governed strictly by UGC guidelines and amendments published in the Gazette of India from time to time.
UGC-NET/CSIR JRF (Before 1989)
- Candidates who have passed UGC-NET or CSIR JRF exams prior to 1989 are exempted from appearing in KSET.
SET (State Eligibility Test) Candidates
SET before 1st June 2002:
- Candidates who cleared the UGC-accredited SET conducted before 1st June 2002 are exempted from appearing in KSET.
- Such candidates are eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India.
SET on or after 1st June 2002:
- Candidates who cleared SET from this date onwards are eligible to apply for Assistant Professor only in the universities/colleges situated in the state from where they cleared their SET.
- They are not exempted from KSET if they wish to apply in Karnataka unless their SET was cleared in Karnataka.
