Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) is responsible for taking the Haryana Civil Service (HCS) exam. The exams are taken to appoint candidates for different state government services. As per the official announcement made by the Haryana Government, the HPSC HCS exam pattern has been changed with immediate effect. According to the new rules, HPSC HCS Prelims CSAT paper (Paper-II) has been made qualifying in nature and thus the score obtained in it will not be considered for the prelims result. The candidates have to get a minimum of 33% marks to clear the CSAT paper. From this year onwards, the HPSC HCS 2020 prelims exam will be taken based on the revised exam pattern.

HCS exam is taken to appoint right candidates for the following posts:
HCS exams are conducted once in a year but the exams for this year are not conducted till now, due to the COVID-19 epidemic.
The eligibility criteria for the HCS exam is based on three parameters including age limit, educational qualification, and physical standards.
The higher age limit for the individuals belonging to unreserved category is 42 years (excluding for DSP posts). While the minimum age required to appear for the exam is 21 years. The age of the candidate will be counted from January 1 of the exam year. There is further some relaxation in the upper age limit for the candidates belonging to reserved categories:

Once the notification on the application process starts is made live on the official website of the exam conducting body, candidates have to register and apply for the same. The form should be correctly filled up and submitted as there is no scope for changes after the final submission. Understanding the exam pattern thoroughly will help to plan the preparation strategy accordingly. The candidates who are familiar with the exam pattern can have a smart preparation plan and make the most of the available time.
First exam, HCS Prelims exam is an objective type question paper and candidates appearing for the prelims have to appear for two papers. The first paper is of General Studies I while the second is the CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test). Both papers hold weightage of 100 marks and 100 objective type questions are asked.
The maximum time allotted for each paper is two hours. For each incorrect answer, one fourth mark will be deducted. From this year onwards, the HPSC HCS prelims exam will have two papers, but the HPSC HCS result will be prepared based on the marks obtained in General Studies Paper I only. The candidates must qualify CSAT paper II.
After the prelims exam, candidates have to appear for the HCS Main exam. This exam includes 5 compulsory conventional essay type question papers; the name of each paper, total marks and time allotted to each paper is disused below.

This is the last stage based on which candidates will be selected for the several posts. HCS personality test holds a weightage of 75 marks. Each year, shortlisted candidates have to appear for the HCS interviews at the commission's premises located in Panchkula.
The final merit list of the shortlisted candidates for HCS exam is prepared based on the total marks of 675. The candidates need to get a good score in the HCS main written and interview as marks obtained in HCS prelims will not be considered while preparing the final merit list.
The syllabus for HSC is quite big and hence, the preparation should be started at the earliest. The prelims is a qualifying exam which means, you should be thorough with the preparation in order to get selected for mains. This is possible when you understand the syllabus thoroughly.

This paper is designed to judge the candidate's knowledge and awareness related to current events. This section includes papers from historical, geographical and economic importance, with special reference to Haryana.
The Viva-voce section is included to test the personal qualities of the test-takers. This test is included to test the candidates’ awareness, intelligence, and general outlook. Importance will also be paid towards the physical appearance of the candidate. Vice Voce will be taken in Hindi or in English based upon the option selected by the candidates.
