CUET 2024 Key Exam Details

CUET 2024 held in hybrid mode, with CBT for most subjects and pen and paper for 15 subjects with high registration numbers. It was the last cycle to allow optional questions and to offer 63 subjects. The table below covers the main exam details.

CUET 2024 Exam Mode: CBT and Pen and Paper

CUET 2024 used two modes on the same day, which is different from both the earlier all CBT format and the 2025 revision. High registration subjects held on OMR sheets, while the rest on computer. This is worth noting if you practise the 2024 paper, since the interface and answering style differed.

Note: The marking scheme was the same in both modes. Keyboards were disabled in the CBT mode, and answers had to be marked using the mouse.

CUET 2024 Subject wise Duration

CUET 2024 did not give all subjects the same time, which is another key difference from 2025. Most subjects had 45 minutes, but subjects with more calculation or reading had 60 minutes. Candidates had to attempt 40 questions out of 50 in each paper. Picking the right 40 was part of the strategy.

CUET 2024 Optional Questions

CUET 2024 had optional questions in every subject paper, which is a key difference from 2025 onward. Candidates attempted 40 out of 50 questions in most papers, so they could skip questions they were unsure about. This gave more time to manage negative marking, since leaving a question blank carried no penalty.

● Each paper had 50 questions, and you attempted 40 of them.

● You could skip up to 10 questions per paper without penalty.

● From 2025, all 50 questions became compulsory, so this flexibility was removed.

● Practicing a 2024 paper is useful for NCERT content, but the question choice strategy no longer applies.

CUET 2024 Marking Scheme

CUET 2024 marking was the same for every subject and every mode. A correct answer added 5 marks and a wrong answer deducted 1 mark. An unattempted question scored zero, and since you had 10 questions to skip, most candidates used that to avoid difficult questions.

Each subject was out of 200 marks (40 questions x 5 marks), and with up to 6 subjects, the maximum total was 1200.

CUET UG 2024 Sections and Subjects

CUET UG 2024 had 63 subjects spread across three sections. Candidates picked subjects based on course, with a maximum of 6. Language papers were in Section 1, domain subjects in Section 2 and the General Test in Section 3.

CUET 2025 revision cut this list to 37 subjects, removing 20 languages and several domain subjects including Entrepreneurship, Fashion Studies and Legal Studies.
