CUET 2022: Why This Year Matters

CUET 2022 was the starting point of a common entrance test for central university admissions in India. Before 2022, each university like Delhi University, BHU and JNU held its own entrance exam or used board marks directly. From 2022, a single score opened doors to all participating universities. The 2022 paper was also the baseline from which NTA refined the format in later years.

• First time a single entrance test replaced separate university exams for central universities.
• More than 40 central universities and other institutions accepted CUET 2022 scores.
• The exam was held across 554 cities in India and 13 cities abroad.
• Around 14 lakh candidates registered for CUET UG 2022.

CUET 2022 Key Exam Details

CUET 2022 was held in CBT mode in July 2022. The exam had four sections and candidates could take up to nine papers in total. The table below covers the main details of the exam.

CUET 2022 Section Structure

CUET 2022 had four sections, the same layout used in 2023 as well. Section IA covered 13 widely spoken languages, Section IB covered 20 additional languages, Section II had 27 domain subjects, and Section III was the General Test. Candidates chose papers across sections based on what their course required, within the nine paper limit.

Note: Candidates could take 3 languages and 5 domain subjects, or 2 languages and 6 domain subjects, plus the General Test if the course needed it.

CUET 2022 Optional Questions

CUET 2022 had 50 questions in each paper, and candidates attempted 40 which applied to all sections, language, domain and General Test equally. Candidates could skip up to 10 questions per paper without any penalty. Since a wrong answer cost 1 mark, skipping questions candidates were unsure about was a better choice than guessing.

CUET 2022 Marking Scheme

CUET 2022 marking was the same across all sections and all papers. A correct answer added 5 marks, a wrong answer lost 1 mark, and a blank question scored zero. Each paper had a maximum of 200 marks since candidates attempted 40 questions of 5 marks each. The marking has stayed the same in all later years.

With up to 9 papers at 200 marks each, the theoretical maximum total was 1800, though most candidates took fewer papers.

CUET 2022 Technical Glitches and Retest

CUET 2022 had technical issues on some exam days, which affected a number of candidates who could not complete their papers normally. NTA identified the affected candidates and held a retest for them on separate dates. Questions dropped because of technical errors were treated as if all candidates got full marks for those questions. This was the first big logistical challenge NTA faced with CUET and it shaped how the exam was managed in later years.

CUET 2022 Answer Key

CUET 2022 answer key was released by NTA on the official portal after the exam was over.

• Answer key and response sheet were released on cuet.samarth.ac.in.
• Keys were available in 13 languages with four sets (A, B, C, D) per subject.
• Candidates could raise objections against the provisional key.
• The final result was based on the final key after objections were reviewed.
