The West Bengal Public State Service Commission conducts the State Civil Services Exam known as the WBCS (West Bengal Civil Service) Exam. The exam takes place annually or whenever the Commissions announces the official date. The WBPSC examination is a three-fold process involving the Prelims, Mains and an interview.

It is a competitive exam carried on by the Government to fulfil the recruitments of various vacant groups A, B, C, D posts.

WBPSC 2020 latest updates

  • WBPSC Commission released the official date calendar for the year 2020-21. The Commission released new WBPSC 2020 exam dates. WBPCS Mains were initially postponed and the Mains will now be conducted from the 19th to the 26th of December,2020.
  • WBPSC Prelims 2019 answer key released on the 11th February 2020.
  • The WBPSC Mains 2019 answer keys (III, IV, V, VI) also have been released the commission.
  • The WBCS Prelims were conducted on the 9th of February,2020. The answer key for the same was released on the 10th February 2020.
  • The Admit Card for the West Bengal Civil Services Examination shall be released soon, approximately about 2-3 weeks prior to the examination.
  • WBPSC 2021 Preliminary Examinations shall be conducted on the 7th February 2021.

WBPSC 2021 Eligibility Criteria

WBPSC 2020 eligibility criteria were published via an official notification. It highlights the minimum bar pertaining to age requirement and educational qualification. It is different for different group services.

WBPSC 2021 Nationality

  • The nominee must be an Indian citizen either natural or by registration;
  • Those other nationals that have been declared competent by the Government of India.

WBCS 2021 Age Limit

The WBPSC has released the WBCS age limit 2020 for the civil services examination for all the group services. The WBCS age limit for the general and others will be calculated next year.

The details of the WBCS age criteria are given below:

For services and posts required in Group ‘A’ and ‘C’ 21-36 years
West Bengal Police Service (i.e. Group ‘B’ service only) 20-36 years
For services and vacancies that are a part of Category D 21-39 years

Note- Those candidates whose birth date lies between the 1st of January, 1999 and 1st Jan, 2000 (applicants whose age is between 20 to 21 shall apply to Group B only). Candidates from other states shall be treated as general candidates.

WBPSC 2021 Age Relaxation

The WBCS age limit for SC/ST is subjected to relaxation adhering to the WBPSC 2020 notification.

The relaxation for different categories are mentioned below:

WBCS 2021 Educational Qualification

The educational qualification has also been released by the WBPSC Commission. Pertaining to the WBCS 2020 educational qualification standards, the candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree i.e. an undergraduate degree in any discipline from any reputed university of the central state /college. Additionally, the candidate must possess the ability to read and write in Bengali (not mandatory for those mother tongue is Nepali).

The Application Process starts from the 5th of November, 2019. The applicants must thoroughly go through the official notification before proceeding to apply online for the WBCS 2020.

Steps to Apply Online for WBCS 2021

  • Register yourself using a valid email ID and a phone number via the official website.
  • After registration, upload the scanned signature and photograph which should not be more than 100Kb.
  • Submit the WBSC 2020 application fee after filling in the form.
  • Download a copy of the same for the future reference.

WBCS 2021 Application Fee

  • General and OBC- a non-refundable fee of Rs 210.
  • SC/ST and persons with disabilities (40% and above) having a physical disability are not required to pay any application fee.

WBPSC has notified the WBCS selection process of 2020 for civil services examination. The examination takes place in 3 stages-

  • WBCS Prelims stage
  • WBCS Mains stage
  • Personal Interview

The Prelims is a screening test to shortlist candidates for the Mains Exam. Only those who qualify the Prelims shall be eligible for the Mains and the interview. The scores obtained by the candidate in the Mains and interview is taken into account for the final selection.

Note: This is a screening test and the marks obtained in the same shall not be added to the final score list as it is conducted only for the purpose of shortlisting.

WBPSC 2021 Mains Exam Pattern

The Mains paper consists of 6 compulsory papers having both objective and written options and 2 optional papers (only for those candidates applying for Group A or Group B). The list of all compulsory papers are mentioned below-

WBPSC Admit Card

WBPSC 2020 Admit Card

The Admit card for the Prelims Exam,2020 is available for download on the official website. The Prelims Examination is to be conducted on the 9th of February,2020. Post the Prelims, the Mains are scheduled to take place and the official notification regarding the release of the admit card will be out soon.

WBSC 2021 Result

The WBCS 2020 result for the WBCS Prelims will be available after the completion of the Exam. The result shall be posted on the official website and will be having the name and the roll number of candidates qualifying the examination.

WBSC 2020 Cut-off

WBPSC releases the cut-off every year at the end of the examination. The cut-off is based on a variety of factors like the difficulty level of the examination, the average performance of the candidates as well as the number of vacancies. WBPSC is yet to release the 2020 cut-offs. Once released the same can be viewed from its official website. However, the expected cut-off for 2020 as predicted by experts is given below-

How to prepare for WBPSC 2021?

  • Make a schedule to give appropriate time to each and every topic.
  • To keep oneself updated, read the newspapers, magazines, relevant articles, watch the TV for current affairs.
  • Make a habit of marking the important points while studying or making notes.
  • Practise online tests after completion of every topic to get a hang of the questions, time management as well as helps in boosting confidence.
  • Practise as many mock tests as possible over and over again to familiarise yourself with the questions.
  • First focus on the topics you are good at, brush up your concepts then move onto the topics which you are weak at.
  • Be consistent with studying, keep revising till the day of the exam, study at least 6 hours a day.
  • Tips and tricks for effective studying-
  • Make a habit of recording the lectures and your notes/current affairs in your voice and listen to them whenever you have some time off. This way you will never forget and is a less tedious way of revising.
  • Make separate, comprehensive notes for the subjects you struggle with.
