Why TANCET 2020 Was the Toughest Paper

Among TANCET exam years from 2018 to 2022, the 2020 paper was the clear outlier rated Moderate to Difficult while every neighbouring year held at Moderate. Data Sufficiency and Quantitative Aptitude were the sharpest spikes.

Do not use the 2020 paper as a score benchmark, a 48 here represents stronger relative performance than a 48 on a standard year. Treat it as a stress test instead. Scoring 45+ on the 2020 paper under timed conditions means you are well-prepared for any standard TANCET cycle. Attempt it second or third in your preparation sequence, after building competence on a moderate difficulty paper first.

What the 2020 Paper Teaches About Question Selection

When a question is harder than expected, most candidates either spend too long on it or guess quickly to move on. Both are costly on a negative-marking exam. The better approach is active question selection before reading the answer choices, spend 15 to 20 seconds assessing whether you can solve the question in under 90 seconds. If yes, attempt it. If not, mark it and move. That is a deliberate decision made before you waste time, not after.

Because 2020 had more hard questions than usual especially in Data Sufficiency and QA practising it under timed conditions builds the instinct to recognise which questions are within reach. That instinct transfers to every TANCET year, not just 2020.

One rule to protect your score on exam day: set a personal attempt ceiling per section before opening the paper, say, 14 out of 20 for your weakest section. Never guess beyond it. The marks you protect are more reliable than the marks you might gain by taking chances.
