Question

Which solder composition is most suitable for joining delicate electronic components

requiring a low melting point and reliable electrical connections?

The correct answer is

Tin-lead solder with 60% tin and 40% lead

Delicate electronic parts are damaged by heat, so the solder must melt at a low temperature and wet the joint cleanly for a sound electrical connection.

The 60% tin, 40% lead solder melts at about 183-188°C, flows freely and forms strong, reliable electrical joints, which is why it is the standard electronics solder.

The copper-rich and 70% lead alloys melt much higher, and the silver alloy here is aimed at other duties, so they risk overheating the components.

Hence, the answer is tin-lead solder with 60% tin and 40% lead.
