Which sheet is most commonly used for roofing because it is both lightweight and corrosion-resistant?

The correct answer is

Aluminum sheet

A good roofing sheet must be light so it adds little dead load to the structure, and it must resist weathering without rusting through over years of exposure.

Aluminium has a low density, so an aluminium sheet is very light and easy to handle and fix on a roof, keeping the load on rafters and trusses small.

Aluminium also forms a thin, tough, self-repairing oxide film the moment it meets air, and this layer shields the metal from further attack by rain and moisture, giving natural corrosion resistance.

This combination of light weight and built-in corrosion resistance is why aluminium sheet is the common choice for roofing.

Copper sheet resists corrosion well but is dense, heavy and costly, so it is used for special roofs, not everyday light roofing.

Tinplate is steel with a thin tin coat that rusts quickly once the coating is scratched, and stainless steel, though rust-resistant, is heavier and far more expensive, so neither meets the lightweight-plus-cheap-corrosion-resistance need as well as aluminium.

Hence, the answer is Aluminum sheet.
