Which part of the neuron transmits the message to the other cells?
Axon
A neuron (nerve cell) is built to carry information as electrical impulses. It has three main parts: dendrites, the cell body (cyton) and a long fibre called the axon, which ends in branched nerve endings.
Dendrites receive the message from other neurons or from receptors and carry it towards the cell body. The cell body, which contains the nucleus, integrates the incoming signals and keeps the cell alive.
The axon carries the impulse away from the cell body to its endings. At the synapse, these endings release chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) that pass the message on to the next neuron, a muscle cell or a gland cell.
So dendrites only bring the message in, the cell body and its nucleus process it and control the cell, and it is the axon that conducts the message out to other cells.
Hence, Axon.
