Which of the following functions is primarily performed by a Block Development Officer (BDO)?
Supervising and monitoring rural development programmes
A Block Development Officer (BDO) is the administrative head of a development block, the intermediate tier of rural local governance between the district and the village panchayat.
The BDO's primary responsibility is to supervise and monitor the implementation of rural development programmes and welfare schemes at the block level, coordinating with panchayats and government departments.
Defence operations, foreign trade negotiations, and stock market regulation fall under entirely different specialised government bodies and are unrelated to the BDO's administrative role.
Therefore, the correct answer is supervising and monitoring rural development programmes.
