Bronze Casting Processes Explained
Bronze casting involves several stages. We need to identify which option does not belong to the core casting process.
Analyzing the Options
- Pouring: This is a critical step where molten bronze is filled into the mold to create the desired shape. It is fundamental to casting.
- Patination: This is a chemical treatment applied to the bronze surface *after* casting to create color and texture. It's a finishing step, not a casting step itself, but commonly associated with the final product.
- Chiselling: This is a subtractive technique used for carving or shaping materials like stone or metal. While it can be used for detailing *on* a cast bronze piece, it is not part of the process of creating the cast itself (liquid metal solidifying in a mold).
- Polishing and Buffing: These are finishing processes used to smooth and shine the bronze surface after casting and cooling. They are post-casting steps.
Identifying the Non-Process Step
Pouring is the act of filling the mold. Patination and Polishing/Buffing are finishing stages applied after the metal has solidified. Chiselling, however, is a carving method, fundamentally different from the creation of the cast shape through metal solidification.
Therefore, Chiselling is not considered a process in Bronze Casting.
