Question

Which box can NOT be formed if the given sheet of paper is folded to form a box ?

The correct answer is

The faces opposite to each other are shown below:

⇒ As the alternate positions becomes opposite to each other and the remaining two faces becomes opposite to each other.

So, opposite pairs are:

  • 2 → 9
  • 3 → 8
  • 6 → 7

Therefore,

  • Option(1)  →⇒As 3, 7 and 9 faces three different sides i.e 8, 6 and 2 respectively, therefore this box can be formed.
  • Option(2)  →As 2 and 9 faces each other, so 2 and 9 cannot be on the sides which are not facing each other. Therefore this box cannot be formed.
  • Option(3)  →As 2, 6 and 8 faces three different sides i.e 9, 7  and 3 respectively, therefore this box can be formed.
  • Option (4)  →As 9, 7 and 8 faces three different sides i.e 2, 6  and 3 respectively, therefore this box can be formed.

Hence,  "Option - (2)"  is the correct answer.
