What happens when blood passes through the alveolar capillaries in the lungs?

RRB Group D 2025 Question Paper (9-Aug-2026) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

Oxygen enters blood and carbon dioxide moves into alveoli

Inside the lungs, the thin-walled air sacs called alveoli are surrounded by a dense network of blood capillaries, forming the main site of gaseous exchange in the respiratory system.

Blood arriving at these capillaries is deoxygenated and rich in carbon dioxide; air in the alveoli, on the other hand, has a higher concentration of oxygen and a lower concentration of carbon dioxide.

Because gases diffuse from a region of higher concentration to lower concentration, oxygen moves from the alveoli into the blood, while carbon dioxide moves from the blood into the alveoli to be exhaled out of the body.

Hence, the correct answer is Oxygen enters blood and carbon dioxide moves into alveoli.
