The University Grants Commission runs professional development programmes for teachers in higher education, now delivered through Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centres (earlier Human Resource Development Centres and Academic Staff Colleges).
The induction programme is meant for newly appointed assistant professors. It orients them to teaching itself: curriculum design, pedagogy, learning outcomes, assessment, use of ICT, classroom management and the professional values of a teacher. Its purpose is to prepare new entrants for teaching.
Enriching content knowledge and refreshing knowledge are the purposes of refresher courses for teachers already in service, and developing attitude is only one part of the broader preparation the induction course gives.
