Question

The volume of a solid cylinder is 80,850 cm3 and its height is 21 cm. What is the total surface area of the solid cylinder?

\(\left(\text{Use } \pi = \frac{22}{7}\right)\)

The correct answer is

12,320 cm2

Volume of a cylinder = \(\pi r^2 h\).

\(\frac{22}{7} \times r^2 \times 21 = 80850\), so \(66 r^2 = 80850\) and \(r^2 = 1225\), giving r = 35 cm.

Total surface area of a solid cylinder = \(2\pi r(r + h)\).

TSA = \(2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times 35 \times (35 + 21) = 220 \times 56 = 12320\) cm2.

Hence, 12,320 cm2.
