Question

The monthly incomes of two friends Nirmal and Rakesh, are in the ratio 5 : 7 respectively and each of them saves ₹93000 every month. If the ratio of their monthly expenditure is 1 : 3, find the monthly income of Nirmal(in ₹).

The correct answer is

₹ 116250

Let the incomes of Nirmal and Rakesh be 5x and 7x respectively. The difference between their incomes is (7x – 5x) = 2x. The difference in the expenditure is 3y – y = 2y. Now, since the savings are the same (₹93000), the expenditure of Nirmal and Rakesh will be in the ratio of their incomes. Hence, the ratio of their monthly income is 116250.
