Question

The marked price of a cooker is same at four shops I, II, III and IV. Shop I allows two successive discounts of 87% and 14%, shop II allows successive discounts of 16% and 92%, shop III allows successive discounts of 60% and 35% and shop IV allows successive discounts of 58%, 29%, and 87% on the marked price of the cooker. Which shop is selling the cooker at the lowest price?

This question was previously asked in
RRB Group D 2025 Question Paper (9-Aug-2026) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

IV

Compare the net price factor for each shop by multiplying the remaining fractions after each discount.

Shop I: \(0.13 \times 0.86 = 0.1118\).

Shop II: \(0.84 \times 0.08 = 0.0672\).

Shop III: \(0.40 \times 0.65 = 0.26\).

Shop IV: \(0.42 \times 0.71 \times 0.13 \approx 0.0388\).

Shop IV has the smallest factor, so its selling price is lowest.

Hence, shop IV sells the cooker at the lowest price.
