Seven boxes R, A, N, D, O, M and S are kept one over the other but not necessarily in the same order. Only five boxes are kept above N. Only three boxes are kept between N and S. O is kept at one of the positions below N. Only D is kept between S and R. A is kept at one of the positions above S. How many boxes are kept between R and O?

The correct answer is

Two

Only five boxes are kept above N, so N is at position2 (with one box below it).

Only three boxes are kept between N(2) and S, placing S at position6.

O is below N, so O is at position1 (the only position below N).

Only D is between S(6) and R: this requires R at position4, with D at position5 between them.

A is above S(6), so A is at position7.

Remaining position3 goes to M.

Full order (bottom to top): O(1), N(2), M(3), R(4), D(5), S(6), A(7).

Boxes between R(4) and O(1): positions2,3, giving two boxes.

Hence, two boxes are kept between R and O.
