NITI Aayog Establishment
The National Institution for Transforming India, NITI Aayog, was established by the Government of India on January 1, 2015.
Reason for Establishment

Replacement of Planning Commission
NITI Aayog was established as a replacement for the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission, established in 1950, had a different mandate and structure, focusing on centralized five-year plans. NITI Aayog represents a shift towards a more bottom-up and inclusive policy-making approach.
