Nephrons in the kidney primarily help in which of the following?

HTET 2025 Level 1 PRT Question Paper (5-Jul-2026)
The correct answer is

Filtration and selective reabsorption

Each nephron is the functional filtering unit of the kidney, consisting of a glomerulus and Bowman's capsule that filter blood plasma under pressure, followed by a long renal tubule. As the filtrate passes along the tubule, useful substances such as glucose, amino acids, ions, and most of the water are selectively reabsorbed back into the blood, while wastes and excess substances remain to be excreted as urine. This two-step process of filtration followed by selective reabsorption, along with some tubular secretion, is the nephron's central role.
