The direction of the magnetic field at the centre of a current-carrying circular loop is determined by which of the following?
Right-Hand Thumb Rule
The Right-Hand Thumb Rule (also called Maxwell's corkscrew rule) gives the direction of the magnetic field produced by a current. If you curl the fingers of your right hand along the direction of the current in the loop, the outstretched thumb points in the direction of the magnetic field at the centre of the loop. This is the rule that relates current direction to the field it generates.
Fleming's Left-Hand Rule gives the direction of the force on a current-carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field (the motor rule), not the field of the current itself. Fleming's Right-Hand Rule gives the direction of induced current in electromagnetic induction (the generator rule). Lenz's Law states that an induced current opposes the change in flux that causes it, again about induced current, not about the field of a steady current.
Hence, the direction is determined by the Right-Hand Thumb Rule.
A single-turn coil of radius R produces a magnetic field B at its centre. If the same wire is wound into a coil of n turns (each of radius R/n) carrying the same current I, what will be the value of the new field at the centre?
