Question

M is facing towards east. By taking which of the following combination of turns, he will be finally facing towards south?

This question was previously asked in
SSC CHSL 2025 Tier 1 Question Paper (21-Nov-2025) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

Right, Left, Left, Right, Right

M begins facing east; a 'Right' turn rotates 90 degrees clockwise and a 'Left' turn rotates 90 degrees anticlockwise.

Track the facing direction after each turn in option 1, starting from east.

First turn Right: east becomes south.

Second turn Left: south becomes east; third turn Left: east becomes north.

Fourth turn Right: north becomes east; fifth turn Right: east becomes south.

So after the five turns Right, Left, Left, Right, Right, M is left facing south, exactly the target direction.

Tracing the other option sequences the same way does not end at south, so they are ruled out.

Hence the required combination of turns is Right, Left, Left, Right, Right.
