Question

In a scenario where light passes through three different media (air, water, and glass) in sequence, which law helps in predicting the final direction of the light ray?

The correct answer is

Snell’s Law

Snell’s law relates the angle of incidence and refraction at the boundary between two media: \(n_1 \sin\theta_1 = n_2 \sin\theta_2\).

Each time light crosses a boundary (air to water, water to glass), the law is applied again using the refractive indices of the two media.

The final direction is the sum of all these refractions, so Snell’s law alone predicts it.

The law of conservation of energy, law of gravity and law of superposition deal with other physical quantities and do not fix the bent path across media.

Hence, Snell’s Law.
