Question

In this type of questions, question is provided with substitutes for various mathematical symbols, followed by a question involving calculation of an expression or choosing the correct/incorrect equation. You have to put the real signs in the given equation and then solve the questions as required.

If '^' stands for '$\div$', '@' stands for '+', '%' stands for '-', '$' stands for 'x', then find the value of:

8 % 11 $ 10 % 3 = ?

This question was previously asked in
SSC CHSL 2025 Tier 1 Question Paper (21-Nov-2025) (Shift 1)
The correct answer is

-105

First substitute each coded symbol with the real mathematical sign it represents.

Given '%' stands for '−' and '$' stands for '×', the expression 8 % 11 $ 10 % 3 becomes \(8 - 11 \times 10 - 3\).

By the BODMAS order, multiplication is performed before subtraction.

So compute \(11 \times 10 = 110\) first.

Now the expression is \(8 - 110 - 3\).

Working left to right, \(8 - 110 = -102\) and then \(-102 - 3 = -105\).

Therefore the value of the expression is -105.
