Read the given passage carefully and answer questions that follow.
War is a criminal act committed by states. Dignity of life is the true essence of humanity. Today this dignity is being crushed for the sake of states. At last, however, the idea that respect of life is the ultimate truth and the esteem of state no more than a myth wilfully created by people in power is becoming widely recognised. Nation must also abandon military preparedness, give up the right of military conscription, and absolutely restrain from warfare of all kinds. As people of religious faith and as human beings, we must fulfil our mission and strive for these goals and ultimately for the establishment of lasting peace. One person who is truly aware of the meaning of his own life will produce another person with similar awareness. These two will become three and then ten, and so on. All of us should have the strong awareness of being citizens of the world. Most individuals put themselves in the centre of their worlds and see other people through their own eyes; but it is important to try to see oneself with the eyes of other. The individual must see that the world does not centre on him, just as man once learned that the solar system does not centre on the earth. The case with nations is also similar.

The correct answer is
Respect of Life

Passage Analysis: Shifting Focus to Respect for Life

The passage argues that war is a criminal act and that the "dignity of life" is the "true essence of humanity." It critiques the focus on states and military power, advocating instead for the recognition of "respect of life" as the ultimate truth.

Reasoning for Essential Change

The question asks what requires an imperative change in our thinking for a fundamental alteration in our basic approach. The passage states that the idea that "respect of life is the ultimate truth and the esteem of state no more than a myth" is becoming widely recognised.

  • This recognition signifies a crucial shift in perspective.
  • Valuing "respect of life" over state power necessitates a change in how we approach global issues, moving towards peace and global citizenship.
  • Therefore, an imperative change in our way of thinking, centered on recognizing the paramount importance of "Respect of Life," is essential for altering our fundamental approach.

Options like "Article of unfaith," "Determination to support oneself only," and "Untrue Democracy" are not directly supported as the core prerequisite for this fundamental change discussed in the text.
