Question

In each of the following questions, there is a certain relationship between two given letter pairs on one side of (::) and pair is given on another side of (::) where another pair is to be found from the given alternatives, having the same relationship with this pair as the pairs of the given pair bear. Choose the best alternative.

AB : DC :: CD : ?

The correct answer is

FE

Examine how AB becomes DC. The first letter A (position 1) advances by 3 to D (position 4); the second letter B (position 2) advances by 1 to C (position 3).

So the rule is: first letter +3, second letter +1, and the resulting pair is written in reversed order (larger-shift letter first).

Apply the same to CD. The first letter C (3) advances by 3 to F (6); the second letter D (4) advances by 1 to E (5).

Written in the same pattern as DC, this gives F followed by E, that is FE.

Hence the answer is FE.
