Question

A body weighs W1 at a place where the acceleration due to gravity is g1. At another place, its weight becomes 5/3 W1. Assuming the mass of the body remains constant, what is the ratio g2:g1?

This question was previously asked in
RRB Technician 2026 Grade 3 Question Paper (7-Oct-2026) (Shift 3)
The correct answer is

5 : 3

Weight is \(W = mg\); with mass constant, weight is directly proportional to g.

\(\frac{g_2}{g_1} = \frac{W_2}{W_1} = \frac{\frac{5}{3}W_1}{W_1} = \frac{5}{3}\)

So \(g_2 : g_1 = 5 : 3\).

Hence, the answer is 5 : 3.
