TNPSC Group 2 Prelims 2026 General Studies Subject-Wise Solutions

The TNPSC Group 2 General Studies section included questions from six major syllabus units. The detailed answer key helps candidates understand factual and conceptual questions, especially those related to Indian Polity, Tamil Nadu History, and Development Administration. The prescribed subject-wise question distribution is provided below.

General Studies Subject Number of Questions Maximum Marks
General Science 5 7.5
Geography of India 5 7.5
History, Culture of India and Indian National Movement 10 15
Indian Polity 15 22.5
Indian Economy and Development Administration in Tamil Nadu 20 30
History, Culture, Heritage and Socio-Political Movements in Tamil Nadu 20 30
Total 75 112.5

How to Calculate TNPSC Group 2 General Studies Marks Using the Answer Key?

Candidates can calculate their estimated General Studies marks by comparing their responses with the November 1 answer key. Each correct answer carries 1.5 marks, while incorrect responses do not attract negative marking. However, a deduction of 0.5 marks applies to questions where no OMR response bubble is shaded. Candidates should mark Option E for questions they do not know, as required by TNPSC instructions.

Estimated General Studies Score = (Correct Answers × 1.5) − Applicable Blank-Response Penalty

For example, if a candidate answers 60 General Studies questions correctly, 10 incorrectly, and marks Option E for the remaining 5 questions, the estimated score will be 90 out of 112.5 marks. Candidates must add their General Tamil or General English and Aptitude marks to calculate the complete preliminary examination score out of 300.

TNPSC Group 2 Prelims 2026 General Studies Expected Cutoff

The TNPSC Group 2 Prelims 2026 expected cutoff will depend on the difficulty level of the question paper, number of vacancies, category-wise competition, and overall candidate performance. General Studies contributed 112.5 marks to the examination, making it an important section for improving the overall preliminary score.

TNPSC does not prescribe a separate qualifying cutoff for General Studies. Candidates must secure at least 90 marks out of 300 in the complete preliminary examination to meet the minimum qualifying requirement. However, the actual marks required for shortlisting to the Main Examination may be higher.

The expected cutoff can be reviewed following the November 1 examination based on candidate feedback and the difficulty level of the paper. The official selection cutoff will be determined by TNPSC according to its recruitment rules.

TNPSC Group 2 General Studies 2026 Answer Key Challenge Process

Following the examination, TNPSC is expected to publish the tentative answer key on its official website. Candidates should carefully review answers related to constitutional provisions, historical events, government schemes, and Tamil Nadu-specific facts. If they identify an incorrect response, they can submit an objection within the period notified by the commission.

Candidates should provide reliable supporting documents while challenging an answer. TNPSC will review the objections and finalize the answers used for evaluation. The official final answer key will serve as the basis for determining correct responses.
