What is BARC Recruitment?
BARC recruitment program selects Scientific Officers for the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) through the OCES-2026, a one-year training course conducted at BARC Training Schools during the academic year 2026–2028. A limited number of top performers from the OCES-2026 batch will be offered the DGFS-2026, a two-year fellowship for Engineering Graduates (2026–2028). Under DGFS, candidates who excel in the OCES interviews and also independently secure M.Tech. admission at IIT Bombay or IIT Madras in the same year will receive stipend and tuition support from DAE while continuing their employment.

BARC OCES/DGFS 2026 Eligibility Criteria
To apply for BARC OCES/DGFS 2026 programme, candidates must fulfil certain academic qualifications, age limits, nationality, and other conditions as detailed below.
BARC Educational Qualification
To be eligible for BARC 2026 recruitment, candidates must fulfil certain academic criteria based on their discipline. Here’s a detailed, simplified breakdown of the educational qualifications required for each field:
General Requirements:
- All degrees must be from a recognized university or institute.
- Minimum 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale is mandatory in the qualifying degree.

1. Engineering Disciplines (Codes: ME, CH, MT, EE, EC, CS, IN, CE)
- B.E. / B.Tech / B.Sc. (Engineering) / 5-year Integrated M.Tech in the relevant engineering stream.
- Candidates must have appeared in GATE 2023, 2024, or 2026 in the same subject as their qualifying degree.
- Degrees in Aerospace, Automobile, Industrial Production, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, Information Technology, and MCA are not eligible.
2. Physics (Code: PH)
- Required Qualification: M.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. in Physics / Applied Physics or B.E. / B.Tech / B.Sc. (Engineering) / Integrated M.Tech in Engineering Physics.
- If applying through M.Sc. route, the candidate’s B.Sc. must include both Physics and Mathematics (except in 5-year integrated programs).
- GATE score must be in Physics or Engineering Sciences (for Engineering Physics).
- Specializations such as Nanoscience, Medical Physics, Astronomy, etc., are not acceptable.
3. Chemistry (Code: CY)
- Required Qualification: M.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. in Chemistry. Candidates must have studied Physics as a subject in B.Sc. (either as a main, subsidiary, or ancillary subject) and Mathematics at Class 12 or B.Sc. level.
- GATE score must be in Chemistry.
- Degrees with specializations like Industrial Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Textile Chemistry, and Environmental Chemistry are not eligible.
4. Biosciences (Code: 43)
- Required Qualification: M.Sc. / Integrated M.Sc. in Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Plant Sciences, etc. or B.E. / B.Tech. in Food Technology.
- The candidate must have studied at least one of these subjects at the B.Sc. level: Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Agricultural Chemistry. GATE score must be in Life Sciences or Biotechnology.
- Degrees like Marine Biology, Forestry, Biomedical Engineering, and Genetic Engineering are not accepted.
5. Geology (Code: 45)
- Required Qualification: M.Sc/ M.Tech. in Geology, Applied Geology, or Applied Geochemistry. The candidate must have studied Geology at the B.Sc. level.
- In B.Sc., any two of the following subjects must be present: Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
- Mathematics is compulsory at Class 12 level.
- GATE score must be in Geology and Geophysics.
- Degrees like Geo-informatics, B.Tech. in Geology, and Environmental Science with Remote Sensing are not acceptable.
BARC DGFS 2026 Eligibility
To be eligible for BARC DGFS 2026, the candidate must:
- Be selected for OCES-2026.
- Secure admission in M.Tech. for the academic year 2026–27 in one of the approved DGFS institutes and specialisations.
- Confirm M.Tech. admission by 14th July 2026.
- Only top-performing candidates in interviews will be awarded the DGFS fellowship.

Other BARC eligibility requirements
- Only regular full-time degrees are accepted.
- M.Sc. by Research, Part-time M.Sc., and correspondence courses are not eligible.
- Candidates with letter grades must convert them to percentages as per university rules.
- Physically challenged persons of all categories are eligible for an age relaxation of 10 years.
- A person with physical disability with an extent of disability of 40% or more will be considered for age relaxation, and may be permitted a scribe.
- Applicant must be a citizen of India.
BARC 2026 Application Process
BARC application must be filed and submitted online. No offline or handwritten forms are accepted. The candidate can apply for only one OCES screening discipline, even if they are eligible for more than one. Follow the following steps to fill BARC application:
Step 1 Registration
The applicant begins by entering basic details such as name, gender, mobile number, email ID, and choice of discipline. After this step, a User ID and password are sent to the registered mobile number and email ID.
Step 2: Verification and Account Activation
The applicant must verify their mobile number using an OTP (One Time Password). They must also confirm their email by clicking a link sent to their inbox. Only after verifying both can they move to the next steps.
Step 3: Fill in Personal Details
The applicant logs into their account and fills in personal information such as date of birth, parents’ names, valid ID details, and address. If the candidate is eligible for fee exemption (like SC/ST, PwD, women), they must upload the required proof in this step.
Step 4: Fill in Academic Qualifications
The applicant enters details of all academic qualifications:
- Class 10 and 12 marks
- Graduation or postgraduation marks (as applicable)
- Degree name, subject, year of passing, university, etc.
Step 5: Choose Screening Channel
There are three ways through which a candidate can be shortlisted for the interview:
- Online exam conducted by BARC
- GATE score (GATE 2023 / 2024 / 2026)
- CGPA score from CEBS/NISER (only for eligible candidates in Physics, Chemistry or Biosciences)
The applicant can choose one or more of these options. If the online exam is selected, the candidate must choose three exam cities in order of preference. If using GATE score, they must upload the GATE scorecard (for GATE 2023/2024). GATE 2026 score can be uploaded later after the results are declared. If using CEBS/NISER CGPA, the candidate must also inform their institute to forward their details to BARC by the mentioned date.
Step 6: Upload Documents
The following documents must be uploaded in the specified format and size:
- Recent passport-size photo (JPG, 20–50 kb)
- Signature (JPG, 10–20 kb)
- GATE scorecard (if applicable)
- Category certificate / PwD certificate / ID proof (if applicable)
Step 7: Preview Application
Before final submission, the candidate is shown a preview of the entire application form. They can go back and edit any incorrect details. Once everything is correct, they can click ‘Final Submission’.
Step 8: Pay Application Fee (if applicable)
Male candidates from the General/OBC categories must pay a non-refundable application fee of ₹500 using a debit card, credit card, or net banking through the SBI payment gateway. Candidates who are exempted from the fee (women, SC/ST, PwD, etc.) can skip this step.

BARC OCES/DGFS 2026 Selection Process
Selection for BARC OCES/DGFS-2026 programme is a two-stage process:
- Screening of candidates through various channels.
- Selection Interview for shortlisted candidates.
This process is conducted separately for each exam discipline, which includes eight Engineering and four Science streams.
Stage 1: Screening for Selection Interviews
Candidates can be shortlisted for interviews through one or more of the following three screening channels:
a) Based on Online exam
- BARC Online Exam (CBT) will be conducted in March 2026 across 40+ cities in India.
- Candidates must select their preferred exam centers during registration. Admit cards are issued only after candidates confirm their participation via a provided portal link (on a first-come-first-served basis).
- No Travel Allowance (TA) is paid for appearing in the online test.
- Each candidate will be awarded a BARC Online Exam Score, which will be the basis for shortlisting for the Selection Interview.
- Candidates opting for this mode must carry a valid ID proof and admit card to the exam center.
b) Based on the GATE Score
- Candidates meeting the eligibility criteria can also be screened based on their GATE 2023, 2024, or 2026 scores.
- The highest score among the three attempts will be considered.
- Only valid GATE scores in applicable subjects will be accepted.
c) Based on CGPA of CEBS/NISER Students
- Students graduating with M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, or Biosciences from CEBS (Mumbai University) or NISER (Bhubaneswar) in 2023–24 or 2024–25, with a CGPA ≥ 7.5/10, are eligible for direct interview screening, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.
- This CGPA-based option can be used only once. If a candidate has been screened through this mode in a previous year, they must apply through either the GATE or Online Exam channel.
- Applicants using this option must submit an online application and forward their details through their institute's Director to BARC HRDD, Mumbai by 23rd March 2026.
Important Notes on Screening:
- Candidates can opt for one or more screening channels to maximize their chances of selection.
- Those opting only for GATE or CEBS/NISER CGPA will not be allotted any exam slot.
- Candidates opting for the online exam along with GATE/CGPA will be allotted a test slot based on city preference and will also be considered through all opted channels.
Stage 2: Selection Interview
- Candidates shortlisted via any screening route will be invited for interviews.
- Interviews for all disciplines except Geology will be held in Mumbai; Geology interviews will be conducted in Hyderabad.
- Outstation candidates will be reimbursed AC-III tier two-way train fare (from registered address by the shortest route or actual fare, whichever is lower).
- Interview scheduling will take place in April 2026, and candidates can choose a slot based on availability.
- Interviews are expected to be held in May–June 2026.
- Alerts and updates will be sent via email, SMS, and social media, and will also be published on the official website.
Final Selection
- The final selection for the OCES/DGFS 2026 programme is solely based on the candidate's performance in the Selection Interview, subject to medical fitness.
- A list of provisionally selected candidates will be displayed on the website in the last week of June 2026.
- Pre-employment medical tests will be conducted at designated DAE hospitals. The stipend will be disbursed only after candidates are declared medically fit.
Candidates selected for OCES-2026 who also secure M.Tech. admission in one of the DGFS-partner institutes and wish to opt for the DGFS scheme must submit proof of admission by 14th July 2026.
