AP Police Constable selection begins with the Prelims Written Test. Candidates qualifying in the Prelims Written Test are called for PMT/PET. Candidates who qualify the PET then appear for the Final Written exam.

The Prelims Written Test consists of 200 questions for 200 marks and is conducted for three hours. Candidates must secure at least 40% for OC/EWS, 35% for BC and 30% for SC/ST to qualify. Marks obtained in the Prelims Written Test have no relevance to final selection. After qualifying PMT/PET candidates appear for the Final Written exam. For Police Constable Civil, Firemen and Warder posts, the final written exam carries 200 marks. For Police Constable AR, the final written exam carries 100 marks and the PET carries 100 marks.
For Police Constable Civil, Firemen, Warder Men and Warder Women, final selection is based on relative merit in the Final Written exam, subject to qualifying in the PET and fulfilling other eligibility conditions. For Police Constable AR, final selection is based on the combined score of the Final Written exam for 100 marks and PET for 100 marks, making a total of 200 marks.
