WB SET 2026 Eligibility Criteria ensures that only qualified candidates apply for Assistant Professor eligibility in West Bengal. Applicants of WB SET must have a Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognised institution with at least 55% marks for General/EWS categories and 50% for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PWD, and Transgender candidates. Final-year candidates can also apply, provided they secure the required marks within two years of the result declaration.   • Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply for WB SET 2026. The exam is conducted exclusively to determine the eligibility of Indian citizens for the post of Assistant Professor in colleges and universities within West Bengal.

WB SET 2026 Educational Qualification

Candidates are required to have educational qualifications as per the following criteria to be eligible for WB SET 2026:

  • General/EWS: Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in a Master’s Degree or equivalent exam from universities/institutions recognized by UGC.
  • OBC (Non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD/Transgender: Candidates must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in a Master’s Degree or equivalent exam from recognized universities/institutions.
  • Candidates appearing or awaiting results of the final year of Master’s degree can also apply. However, such candidates will be considered eligible for Assistant Professor only after securing the required percentage within two years from the date of SET result. Failing to do so will lead to disqualification.
  • Ph.D. Degree Holders: Candidates who completed their Master’s level exam by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the result declaration date) are eligible for a relaxation of 5% marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%).
