The Union Public Service Commission conducts the IFoS recruitment exam to recruit officers for Indian Forest Services(UPSC IFoS). The notification for 2021 is out and the application window is open. Go through the steps below to apply for the exam. Read the eligibility criteria 

Crash Course

The application process will continue from March 04, 2021, to March 24, 2021. On the other hand, the application withdrawal process will start from March 31 to April 06, 2021. While preparing for the UPSC IFoS exam, candidates should practise the previous question papers along with the mock tests. 

There is a common application for UPSC IAS and IFoS Prelims. If you qualify for the prelims exam, you will have to apply once more for the mains exam for which the application procedure is separate for both the exams.

UPSC has released the notification for the 2021 exams on March 04, 2021. The Application Process was started on the same day and will last till March 24, 2021. Here are UPSC IFoS 2021 calendar:

UPSC IFoS 2021 Application Process

The application process for UPSC IFoS is completely online and very easy. The detailed steps are given below to help aspirants register for the exam.


  • Visit the official website of UPSC and find the link to register for UPSC Civil Services. Click on the “apply here” button.
  • Enter all the credentials which you are asked for in the first stage correctly, especially the contact details.
  • Once you have filled up the form, you will be asked to verify the information before final submission. After the final submission, it cannot be changed. Once you submit, your registration ID and password for the UPSC website login will be sent to your registered mail and mobile number.
  • Note these registration ID and password to log in to the website in the future for admit card, result, etc.


  • Using the new login ID, re-login and start filling up the second step of the form. The second step includes all your educational background, category, and preference of the exam centre.
  • You can choose up to 3 exam centres.
  • Make sure all the information provided is correct and true to your knowledge before you finally submit the form in this step as well as they are unchangeable later.
  • In the next part of the form, you have to upload your photo and signature.
  • Both should be in JPG or PNG format.
  • The photo should be recent and in passport size.
  • The signature should be on white paper with blank ink.
  • The signature must not be in capital letters.

  • The last step is to pay the fees.
  • The fee for the application is INR 100 for general category male candidates and OBC.
  • SC/ST/PWD/ex-servicemen and women are exempted from fee payment.
  • After the fees have been successfully paid, you can download a copy of the application form and keep a print-out. It will be useful later in case there is any dispute with the admit card.

The candidates who qualify for the Mains exam after the UPSC IFoS Prelims Result are out will have to apply again for the Main Exam. The application process is similar and on the official website only.

The payment can be done through net banking, debit, and credit card, or by submitting cash to the respective and authorized bank branch along with the print-out of the e-challan.

UPSC IFoS 2021 Application Documents Required

The application procedure is easy but you must make sure that there is no mistake while entering the required data in the fields as they cannot be changed once the form is submitted. Before you start filling the application form, keep the following handy:

  • Voter ID/Adhaar Card/PAN card
  • Scanned copy of photograph and signature
  • Bank details and your credit/debit cards
  • Active Mobile Number and Email ID
  • All your Mark sheets from class 10, 12, Bachelor’s degree and Masters,
  • ST/SC/PWD certification, if applicable

The application along with the fees should be submitted within the application window for success. To ensure exam centre allotment is as per your choice, applying at the earliest is a wise decision.



Ques. What is the application fee for OBC women?

Ans. The application fee for OBC candidates is INR 100. However, women are exempted from the application fee.

Ques: Do I have to choose 3 exam centres?

Ans: It is advisable to choose 3 exam centres as there is a limit to the number of seats at each exam centre. If the seats are full in the first preferred centre, the second one will be considered.

Ques: Is it important to note the registration ID and password?

Ans: Yes, the registration ID and password are required each time the candidate wants to log in to the website. However, they are also sent on the registered email id and mobile number.

Ques: Is there a single application for both the Prelims and the Mains?

Ans: No, there are two separate application forms that need to be filled before the Prelims and the Mains respectively.
