With reference to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015 – 2030, consider the following statements :

I. It sets six global targets and three priorities for action.

II. It promotes “Build Back Better” during recovery and reconstruction.

III. It was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction.

This question was previously asked in
UPSSSC Lower PCS 2026 Question Paper (23-Aug-2026)
The correct answer is

II and III only

Statement I is incorrect. The Sendai Framework sets seven global targets and four priorities for action, not six targets and three priorities. The four priorities are understanding disaster risk, strengthening risk governance, investing in resilience, and enhancing preparedness for effective response and recovery.

Statement II is correct. "Build Back Better" is precisely the theme of the fourth priority: rehabilitation and reconstruction after a disaster should raise the standard of what is rebuilt rather than restore the same vulnerability.

Statement III is correct. The framework was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held at Sendai in Japan in March 2015, succeeding the Hyogo Framework for Action.

Since only the second and third descriptions hold, the answer is II and III only.
