The correct answer is

She held the position of Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO-Paris

Ruchira Kamboj served as India’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO in Paris — option 3.

Her career. She joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1987 and was the woman topper of the civil services examination of that year. Her postings included Paris, Mauritius and South Africa, and she rose to be India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York from August 2022 — the first woman to hold that post — retiring in 2024.

Permanent Representative to the UNNew York, from August 2022 — the first Indian woman in the post
Retired2024

Why the other statements are wrong. She has not been a member of NITI Aayog, which is a policy think tank headed by the Prime Minister with a Vice-Chairman and full-time members drawn from economics and public policy. The Indian Council of World Affairs is a separate research body at Sapru House in Delhi, and membership of it is not among her offices. And India’s first woman ambassador to the United States was Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, appointed in 1949 — a fact that disposes of option 4 at once.

A note on the two “firsts”. The question itself supplies one of them, that she was the first Indian woman Permanent Representative to the UN. Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit is the other name worth remembering here: besides being ambassador to Washington and Moscow, she was in 1953 the first woman President of the United Nations General Assembly.

Hence, the answer is she held the position of Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO-Paris.
