Reverberation is the persistence of sound in a space after the original sound source has stopped, often perceived as an unwanted echo. It occurs due to sound waves reflecting off surfaces.

The way sound interacts with surfaces determines the level of reverberation. Different materials affect sound reflection and absorption differently:

• Marble walls: Marble is a hard, smooth surface that reflects most sound waves, increasing reverberation.
• Hard concrete floor: Similar to marble, concrete is hard and dense, causing significant sound reflection and thus, more reverberation.
• Removing furniture: Furniture, especially soft furnishings like sofas and curtains, absorbs sound. Removing them would decrease sound absorption and increase reverberation.
• Sound-absorbent materials: Materials like carpets, curtains, acoustic tiles, and foam are designed to absorb sound energy rather than reflect it. Using these materials significantly reduces the number of reflections, thereby decreasing reverberation.
