Which of the following is not a measure of dispersion ?

MH SET 2019 Paper 2 Sociology Question Paper (23-Jun-2019)
The correct answer is

Normal Deviation

Measures of dispersion describe how widely the observations are scattered around a central value. The standard absolute measures are range, quartile deviation, mean deviation and standard deviation (with relative measures like coefficient of variation).

Mean Deviation – average of absolute deviations from mean/median: a measure of dispersion. Standard Deviation – root mean square deviation from the mean: a measure of dispersion. Range – difference between the largest and smallest values: a measure of dispersion.

“Normal Deviation” is not a statistical measure of dispersion at all; the word “normal” relates to the normal distribution, not to a spread measure.

Hence, the answer is Normal Deviation.
