Question

Which hormone is typically measured during infertility investigations to assess ovarian reserve?

The correct answer is

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)

Ovarian reserve is the number and quality of remaining eggs.

Day 2–3 serum Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) is a standard test: a raised FSH means the pituitary is working harder to stimulate failing ovaries, indicating reduced reserve. AMH and antral follicle count are also used.

Testosterone, prolactin and TSH are checked for other causes of infertility (PCOS, hyperprolactinaemia, thyroid disease), not to assess ovarian reserve.

Hence, Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH).
